My favorite piece. My favorite key. Written in Weimar in 1711. The opening is improvising section, free, strong, and spirit. In the Slow-cholare fugue, the 4 voices make gorgeous harmonies. Sustained notes are just amazing. Long fugue is following. ( double fugue is in the second half.) Fugue is like a traveling. Each subject has different face, color, and atmosphere. Long Bridge is so interesting. Something new is waiting over the bridge. Episodes make me so excited. I cannot stop playing this. So much fun! * recorded in New York, 2009

In this respect it is similar to Beethoven's op. 81a Sonata whose three movements have the descriptive titles: "The Farewell", "The Absence", "The Return". The first movement, Peasants' Gathering, suggests the happy optimism of friends and family gathering together. It is in a symmetrical rondo form ABACACABA, each of the three themes presenting contrasting ideas. The second movement, Peasants' Song, suggests a simple and expressive song. The third movement, Peasants' Dance, presents a lively country dance in 6/8 which begins in simple two-part form with inversions (stated piano or relatively soft) which culminates in a rousing conclusion (stated forte or fortissimo). When I decided to compose a neo-classical sonatina I did not initially plan on so much Beethoven influence; however, it sort of turned out this way by chance. Or perhaps it was because Beethoven is my favorite classical-era composer and he wrote the most "rustic" or "peasant" sounding music of the classical-era composers? My initial plan even before I wrote the sonatina, was to keep each movement less than three minutes at the very maximum and at the same time present effective themes ...

It consists of an overture and nine separate subsequent pieces for soprano and full orchestra. Beethoven wrote it between October 1809 and June 1810, and it was premiered on 15 June 1810. The subject of the music is the history and the heroism of the Count of Egmont. In the music Beethoven expressed his own political concerns, particularly the heroic exaltation of the sacrifice of a man condemned to death by having taken a strong stand against oppression. The music was accompanied by eulogistic praise, in particular by ETA Hoffmann, for its poetry and Goethe himself declared that Beethoven had expressed his intentions with "a remarkable genius". The overture, powerful and expressive, is one of the last works of his middle period; it has become as famous a composition as the Coriolan Overture, and is in a similar style to the Fifth Symphony which he completed two years earlier.
